Výstava Decadence Now! Za hranicí krajnosti je mezinárodním projektem, který koncepčně pracuje s pojmem dekadence v současném umění. Výstava není dělena chronologicky, ale tematicky do pěti oddílů, jež na sebe plynule a logicky navazují a vytvářejí tak pomyslný a uzavírající se kruh.
Dekadence je téma, které je v současné kultuře aktuální, či lépe, opět aktuální. Apokalyptický pocit zmaru a krize naší civilizace podněcuje zvýšený zájem o temnou stránku lidského nitra i samotného světa. Od 70. let 20. století můžeme sledovat kontinuální snahu pracovat s typicky dekadentní tematikou u celé řady umělců jako Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Nobuyoshi Araki, Jake a Dinos Chapman, Robert Mapplethorpe, Damien Hirst, Zhang Peng, Keith Haring, Andres Serrano, Gottfried Helnwein a dalších.
V této souvislosti je patrný i zvýšený zájem o dekadenci ze strany odborné i laické veřejnosti. Výstavy představující díla dekadentního umění vyvolávají nadšené reakce, stejně jako provokují veřejné skandály. Vždy ale otevírají diskuzi k celé řadě klíčových témat jako odcizení, ošklivost, krása, halucinace, smrt, pornografie, násilí, drogy, nemoc, šílenství, která formují základní otázky současné kultury a společnosti.
Nizozemskou výtvarnou scénu na výstavě reprezentují dva autoři – fotograf Erwin Olaf, jehož loňská výstava byla jedním z programových pilířů NethWorks.cz 2009, a Terry Rodgers zastoupený amsterdamskou TORCH Gallery. Prvně jmenovaného rodáka z Amsterdamu reprezentuje v Rudolfinu několik děl z cyklu Královská krev. Rodgerse pak představují monumentální fotorealistická plátna, v nichž dokonalá a smyslná těla modelů a modelek jakoby ze zákulisí extravagantních večírků kontrastují s jejich zahleděností do sebe samých. Dráždivá atmosféra skupinového hedonismu se na plátnech rozbíjí o pěstěné ego jejich aktérů.

The Decadence Now! Visions of Excess is the international exhibition project which works with the concept of decadence in current art. The exhibition is not divided chronologically, but thematically into five sequential sections that fluently and logically relate to each other, and which also create an imaginary closing circle.
Decadence is a theme which is topical in current culture, or better yet, it is once again topical. The apocalyptic feeling of ruin and crisis of our civilization incites the increased interest in the dark side of humans and of the world itself.
Starting in the 1970's, we can follow the continual effort of the artists like Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Nobuyoshi Araki, Jake a Dinos Chapman, Robert Mapplethorpe, Damien Hirst, Zhang Peng, Keith Haring, Andres Serrano, Gottfried Helnwein etc. to work with typical decadent themes.
In relation to this, the increased interest in decadence from the view of the expert and lay public is also relevant. Exhibitions which present works of decadent art evoke enthusiastic reactions in the same manner as public scandals do. However, they always open discussions on an entire line of key themes like alienation, ugliness, beauty, hallucination, death, pornography, violence, drugs, sickness and madness, that form basic questions of current culture and society.
Dutch art scene is represented by two authors: photographer Erwin Olaf whose last year´s exhibition was one of the corner stones of the NethWorks.cz 2009 programme, and Tery Rodgers representing TORCH Gallery in Amsterdam. The first mentioned artist from Amsterdam is represented by a few pieces from his Royal Blood series. Rogers is represented by his monumental photorealistic canvases where perfect and sensual bodies of models, both male and female in a backstage of extravagant parties contrast with their status of being wrapped up in themeselves. An irritating atmosphere of a group hedonism is being broken on the canvases by well-kept egos of its participants.
